Bikini in public?

I’m 14, and my mum is still not letting me wear bikinis in public, saying it’s ‘not appropriate for 14 yr olds.’ I don’t see what’s so bad about it. Do you think my mums being reasonable or overreacting?

Personally I think it’s fine and women and girls should wear what they want as it’s their body, however I think your mum is just a bit worried about unwanted attention from men and boys. 💗

Personally my mom is concerned what I wear too. I have a bikini that is a little more exposing than a bra and she doesn’t like me wearing it other than with people we know. She tells me that because I’m wearing it men might think I’m older than 13 and try to approach me. I don’t know what yours looks like but I would say maybe talk to your mom and find out why she doesn’t approve and find one that you both feel comfortable with. I think your mom is probably just trying to keep you safe. I hope this helps😊

Its absolutely horrible that young girls are sexualised like this, but sadly there are a lot of dangerous people out there and your mom is just trying to protect you.
If you are wearing it at the beach or the swimming pool i think you should be allowed to wear it, but if you are leaving the beach to go to the shop ect, then it would probably be a good idea to throw something on to cover up if it makes you feel safer. 
In reality men will harass women no matter what they wear, and in my opinion telling women and girls to cover up is basically shifting the blame onto women.
I would say just talk to your mom if you really want to wear one, because wearing a bikini is quite normal for girls of any age.
