Identical or fraternal?

I saw my ob/gyn today and she did another US to check on the twins. She said she still can't tell if they are identical or fraternal. I will see another Dr that specializes in multiple pregnancies at 19 weeks. Has anyone else having twins gotten the same information? Is it normal to not know if the are identical or fraternal?

I had three different doctors look to see if my twins were identical or fraternal. They still don't know lol. They look identical,  so I plan on having a test done later to see if they are.

I'm having di/di twin girls. So separate sacs / placentas. My dr said there's an 80% chance of being fraternal but there's that 20% they are identical 😑 and won't really know until they are here. Esp since both girls it's hard to say even more lol.

I've had 3 ultrasounds and they still haven't determined whether they are sharing a placenta or not. I go to MFM on Thurs. Good luck.

I had the same situation and didn't find out until 19 weeks when I saw the specialist. As soon as they looked and looked at my previous ultrasounds, she was certain they were mo-di identical twins.

At my 9 week appointment with my regular OB, they told us fraternal (maybe because they measured one day apart and twins run in my family). We saw a specialist at 20 weeks and he said 98% sure they're identical and wasn't sure why we were told differently. He explained that my twins share a placenta. If they had started with their own, they can grow together, but have markers called 'twin peaks' where the placenta grows up in between the sacs. So interesting!

My trips share a placenta but have separate amniotic sacs so they are identical it all depends on how they are set up lol

The only for sure way to know unless it's boy, girl sets  is a test ( normally blood test at birth ) One sac ( Normally identical ) Can in rare cases split and Two sacs (   Normally Fraternal ) can merge. This is what I got told by my doc with my Fraternal twins when I had them back in 2010.

We didn't know if my twins were identical or fraternal until birth because they were di di and both girls. They could have been one egg that split very early causing two sacs and two placentas. They were fraternal at birth.
