Question

Describe three biological differences between ourselves and the Coronavirus that enables the virus to evolve faster?
Not a paper. It’s a prompt response to an assignment I did.

I’m not getting much help from google. My first biological difference was about the coronavirus surviving in cold conditions but the response didn’t seem appropriate. I’m trying to see how other people would respond to this.

Lots of fun in this question. I would suggest looking up the drivers of evolution and then looking up what those look like in viruses and in humans but to answer..
First think about the process of reproduction. Simply, human reproduction is a longer process than viral reproduction. Without getting too detailed (you can look up a more detailed description on the internet if you wish) I will try my best to explain. In humans, certain cells go through meiosis. A process which shuffles genes and reduces the number of chromosomes present in a cell from 46 to 23. In men this would become the sperm and in women the egg. During fertilization, the chromosomes combine to give rise to a new individual. This individual will not become reproductive until they reach sexual maturity and have a child of their own. With each new individual there are small changes occurring. Accumulation of small changes is evolution. Viruses are simpler organisms in that they are  genetic material surrounded by a protein coat. When a virus infects a new host it infiltrates the host cells and uses the host cell machinery to make many copies of its viral genome. They go on to infect a new host. Basically, the virus replicates much faster than humans. Replication is a source of evolution because there are mutations that occur and mutations can have big impacts on how an organism responds to its environment. With coronavirus reproducing so quickly, it can adapt to its changing environment ensuring the copies suited for the present environment keep replicating. I would say this could count as two items. 1. The number of offspring produced in x amount of time and 2. The chances for mutation.
Now let's look at the geography of replication. Relatively speaking, a human is not likely to have offspring with every possible mate all around the globe. There are lots of factors that go into human reproduction, like sexual attraction, fertility, consent and so on. But for airborne viruses, like coronavirus, they spread  to anyone that breathes (this is being simply put there are other factors that go into the epidemiology) . They have more chances at reproduction because they are not as selective as humans so they spread to their genetic material to many individuals.

I wouldn’t worry so much about it being a corona virus, and more just about it being a virus. What makes it so any virus can evolve faster than a human. Think about DNA here for this answer...
