My 42 week induction

Kailey

I had to be induced when I reached 42 weeks because baby boy did not want to come out on his own! I got to the hospital at 7:30am to start my induction. I got all situated and once I was all relaxed I started having some contractions on my own so at 9:30am they check me and I’m at 2cm dilated 60% effaced (same as I have been for a week). They started me on a low dosage of oxytocin. My contractions were coming about 2-3 minutes apart and I was still feeling pretty content. The day goes by and the doctor comes back to check me again at 3pm and says I’m 4cm dilated 80% effaced and talks about how a c section maybe a backup plan because I’m 2 weeks overdue and he is measuring to be a big baby, so we would try vaginal first. After that the contractions started to get more intense and I opted for an epidural so around 5:00pm I got the epidural. I got the epidural with my first son and it felt like heaven after I had gotten it, but not this time of round. It didn’t numb my body properly, it felt like it only numbed my left side and I can still feel everything on my right side. The pain was causing me to become nauseous (so yeah I ended up vomiting a couple times and my body was shaking uncontrollably 😫) I waited to see if it would even itself out but it didn’t I asked around 6:00pm to see if maybe they could reposition the epidural because I can still feel my right side and they said to try laying on that side to see if that helps (it didn’t). The nurse then checked my cervix and she told me It felt like I was fully dilated and I was ready to push so they called the doctor in and I started to push. The contractions were so intense and trying to catch my breath between each push was so hard but I was really determined to get this baby out because of all the pain.. I pushed for about 30 minutes and I then welcomed my baby boy into the world at 6:50pm on June 5, 2020.

Odin Zayn - weighed 10lbs 7oz and 22.5 inches long.. vaginal delivery caused me a second degree laceration. My first pregnancy felt like a breeze compared to this one. I’m so glad it’s over and I finally have him in my arms 🥰
