Has the doctor ever called you to tell you that you were a carrier of a certain disease? What was your outcome?

I got a call that I have the SMA (spinal muscular atrophy) type 1 gene so my husband is going to get tested to see if he has it too.

We’ve had one loss. Currently 12 weeks now and a bit worried. My doctor said if my husband also carries the gene then our baby has a 25% chance of having it.

She told me to do some research and I saw that most babies diagnosed with this have a life expectancy of 18 months.

I know it’s a low percentage at 25% if my husband also carries the gene but I also lost a baby in the second trimester when it’s considered “safe”/rare to miscarry. So numbers aren’t necessarily in my favor.
