I’m wanting to go back to college, but I’m not sure where to start.

I want to be a biologist, either specializing in wildlife biology or genetic biology, I can’t really decide. But what would be the first steps and can I attend a community college and attain an associate in science then transfer? Or do I need to apply for a 4 year college now? Do they have basic classes at the 4 year colleges? (Sorry I don’t know much of anything about furthering my education.) I’m 28. Hopefully I’m not too old. :(
