Strong contractions died off?

Back story, Monday my doc checked me because I had contractions on Sunday. I was a fingertip dilated. Wednesday I was 2cm so they sent me to the hospital for steroids. These were my contractions on Wednesday at hospital. They lasted about an hour and were very painful. After an hour or so they tapered off. Thursday morning (430am) I woke up to more painful contractions that lasted just over an hour. Sunde then I’ve had nothing happen. Doctors didn’t give me meds to stop contractions since they tapered off on their own. What’s going on with these starting and stopping?
