BLM & Social Media

Okay. I am a white woman. I support the idea behind BLM. I recently opened a small business, two weeks ago. I have an Instagram. I have been posting local black business on my stories, and swapping my usual purchases like skin care items with items from locally owned black business and posting on my business account, as well as posting about my products.

Recently, people who I thought were friends (other white women) have unfollowed me and seem to have unfriended me in real life because they think I am “not using my platform enough to post about the issue.”

While I understand posting your support, and showing solidarity is important...I felt that I was doing that in an acceptable way. I understand everyone will have a different opinion on how much posting is the right amount of posting about the issue, but damn. I feel like this attitude is alienating to potential allies.

Personally, I believe what really matters is the work that is done offline where no one can clap at you or pat you on the back.

I don’t know. Just feeling disheartened by this.
