Do y’all think a parent locking their child in their bedroom when they’ve misbehaved is abusive?

I believe this is abusive behavior. I just wanted other opinions.

Sending them to their room- no. Locking them in- yes.

I’m very surprised so many people said no. I see this as abusive 100%. I’ve had this done to me by an ex numerous times as an adult, and it’s caused severe anxiety. I can only imagine how a child would feel. I don’t think it’s ever ok to lock a kid in their room.

It depends... my little brother was super defiant as a young child and wouldn’t sit still for time outs... so my parents reversed the lock on his bedroom door and would lock him in for like 10-15 mins as his “time out”. 
I have a close friend whose father was actually abusive who would lock her in a closet as a kid for the entire day as a form of punishment. 
There’s a line obviously.

If I wouldn't do it to an adult, I'm not doing it to a child. In terms of "punishment" it's okay to be upset and angry. It's not okay to go locking people in rooms against their will. Children included.

While I don’t agree with it as a whole, I cannot say it’s “abusive” without knowing the full context. It’s not something I would ever consider doing as there are far more effective methods to  correct misbehavior.

Is this not called time out? I am confused how a time out could be considered abusive.

I don’t even like to physically restrain my daughter.. I’m not going to say it hasn’t come to that, but I try to avoid taking away her agency and her bodily autonomy. I feel kicking a child up does both of those things.

Depends on how long. Over 2 hours, yeah it starts getting into abusive territory.
But I wouldn't lock my kid in the bedroom unless there was a camera to watch. Wouldn't trust them not to be sneaky or start breaking things. (Under 9 years old, older kids need privacy)
