Be careful when thawing your frozen milk!

Er

You should pay attention to your breastmilk storage bags when freezing! If they say don't freeze over 6 oz, don't freeze over 6 oz! I always knew to never do that, so I always fill them in smaller quantities, 2-4 oz usually. This is because the bags can burst when freezing because the liquid expands as it solidifies. So when you thaw, you can lose your precious milk! I've never had this happen until today! I had a bag filled up to about 3.5 oz and I thawed it overnight. I found it leaking this morning! I lost an ounce! I will be thawing all my milk in zip lock bags from now on, and also thawing them flat so they don't leak as much if they do. I had mine sitting upright leaning against the fridge wall. I still wouldn't use the milk that gets caught in the zip lock bag (because it also touches my breastmilk bag which the outside may not be sanitary) but at least you can still stop it from getting your breastmilk all over everything. So this is just some helpful advice! No matter how much you store in your breastmilk storage bags, still thaw in a zip lock bag just in case! I learned the hard way! 😩
