I need some advice, please! No harsh or rude comments please .

Okay, so today my husband was putting in a window unit in our living room, while my husband lifted the window then grabbed the unit our pit bull, his name is boss, jumped out of the window and ran outside. My husband put the window down and ran outside to get him, we do live In city limits and there is a leash law here, well, my husband heard the neighbors yelling, so he went over there and our dog and their dog was fighting, my husband picked up our dog put him on the leash and started to walk him back and their dog attacked our dog. Anyways, they called the cops on us, said our dog attacked theirs, the officer came out talked to my husband and said animal control wants to come here monday, my husband said he will be at work and so they asked if he had a phone number they could call him at because they will want to talk to him, so he gave them his number. Also, our neighbor told my husband she wants our dog put down.

He has never ever once been aggressive a day in his life, he loves people, I have another dog and it's a male and they get along perfectly fine. Hes been to dog parks and hes never once acted aggressively.

He is also my 1 year old daughters service dog for her seizures, I really dont want our baby to be put down or taken away. I don't know what to even do.

I completely understand he shouldn't have been outside not on a leash. There dog has also gotten out before multiple times but even though weve been growled at we dont say anything just because we know sometimes things happen and dogs do get out.

We dont have all the money in the world, I am kind of expecting to pay a fine, and possibly pay for vet Bill's, and have our dog put down or taken away.

Our neighbors put on Facebook their taking their dog to the vet and how their dad is paying for it so their gonna want their money back and how they are gonna sue us for it and go to the police station about it. she said the police came and talked to her and us but they aren't doing anything about it. I just dont know what to do. Any info is helpful or advice. I feel really bad about him getting out but I have 2 kids and am also pregnant there was no way I could stop him from jumping out of the window while a unit was being put in, I wasnt even in the room at the time.

I dont know what to do or even think.
