Sent to L&D for monitoring

Heather

I went to see my OB today for a weekly check-in since I'm 34 weeks and have GD. I never have to wait, but today, I waited for well over an hour. My ultrasound/BPP was great! Baby girl is measuring in at 5lb, 5oz, 46th percentile. Her breathing and my fluid levels were great. The ultrasound tech said she looks really healthy. I had to go wait another almost 30 minutes for my doctor.

The nurse comes in and like always I ask for a few minutes to sit, because my blood pressure is ALWAYS high on the first reading. She just stood there staring at me so I said fine, go ahead and check it. It was 153/107. Definitely high. She leaves, comes back in 5 minutes or so, and it's 140/90. The doctor comes in all panicky, and I showed her my log of home readings, from 2 different cuffs (photos attached). She says she doesn't think they're accurate, then lectures me for awhile for eating mashed potatoes last night (I had a small blood sugar spike), and sends the nurse in again. My blood pressure went up to 140/100 at this point. So off to L&D I go!

They monitored me for about 1.5, 2 hours. I had one high reading there (150/90) but nothing else was high enough to keep me. My urine and bloodwork were all normal. So, no preeclampsia, and my discharge papers just say to keep up the weekly appointments. They had the baby hooked up the entire time and her heart rate was great, no issues.

Y'all, I am FREAKING OUT. I've posted before about my anxiety. I literally don't know how to get it under control. I saw my cardiologist last week (I've got benign tachycardia, PACs, and PVCs and have been on beta blockers for years anyway) and they upped my beta blocker dosage. I have a follow-up scheduled with them for this coming Monday, and back to weekly appointments with the OB. I get so panicky at the doctor, I just can't help it. I've been this way my entire life. That's why I check my blood pressure at home regularly with 2 different cuffs. Now I'm home and sanitizing everything because of freaking COVID, and I'm already freaking out about seeing the OB next week. My heart is pounding and my chest feels tight. Is my blood pressure going to be high in her office again? Is she going to send me to L&D every week now if so?!? Anyone else going through this? I know at home cuffs may not be completely accurate but I use 2 and the numbers are never far off. How in the world can I get these great numbers at home and then it skyrockets at the doctor? I have a prescription for Zoloft I haven't started yet. Wondering if I should go ahead and start it tomorrow morning...
