Would you be okay with S/O giving away pet for you?

Hey y’all!
My boyfriend and I have been discussing moving in together. He has a cat and I have a large dog. Both are great and sweet animals. (My dog is very nervous and can be annoying.) We’ve been slowly introducing them through doors, baby gates, with the dog on leash and the cat comfortable. It has been going okay but my boyfriend thinks he should give his cat away to make it fair for the cat and for his own emotions. He thinks the stress of the situation isn’t fair for both of them. I really don’t want him to give his cat away. I love that he’s willing to do it IF it comes to that. But I don’t think we are to that decision yet and it would break my heart to give away one of the animals. I’ve never given a pet up. 
What do y’all think? What’s y’all opinion/experience?

They will get use to eachother.. If after several months you can tell its considerably affecting the cats mood, habits, behavior then maybe best interest for the cat to have owners without a dog but I'm sure he will get use to having a dog around and be just fine!

If the introduction is going well, why is your boyfriend concerned?

Get a tall cat tree and lots of spaces for the cat to get away and hide that the  dog cant get to. That will help reduce the stress. There are also wall adapters and sprays called Feliway that produces a sent that reduces stress in cats. As for the dog, really try to train not to chase after the cat. I dont think he has to rehome his pet but if it is causing too much stress for him and he has a good home lined up for the cat it wouldnt be the end of the world.

It has taken 2 years for our 2 cats to warm up to our dog (we got her as a puppy).
We got baby gates to block off certain rooms so that the cats always have their own dog-free spaces in the house, one upstairs and one downstairs. I was really worried that my girl cat would never come around but this last month we finally hit a breakthrough.
There were times I worried that it would be best to find her a new home, but I am so glad we didn't.

Both pets are gorgeous. Keep the cat. They will get used to each other or atleast tolerate one another. But it's not fair to the cat to have to be rehomed because her father doesn't want her anymore. I could never date someone who gave a family member away.

If it’s going well why not give it time and see if it works out. Cats and dogs can get along great. My cats definitely the boss of my 100+ pound puppy. It all depends on the cat and dog though.

They will most serially get used to each other i had a cat that was super afraid of the dogs we have and a cat that don't care about them. It took about 2 and a half weeks for her to actually be able to hang out around the dogs but she found she would rather be scared to be around them to be around us then to be by her self. We now have 3 cats and 2 dogs and they all get along it just takes time and the calming collars or plug-ins work great for calming the cats. Good luck!
