Midwife or obgyn?

Im still debating if i want to get a midwife instead of an obgyn, i had an ob for my first pregnancy.

I always do both, but I do give birth at home, so qn ob doesn't do the delivery.

I find that midwives are much more sweet and compassionate... as opposed to OBGYN doctors are more by the book and quick to get you in and out. At least that’s been my experience. But a midwife usually only delivers healthy pregnancies and the more intricate stuff is left to a dr.

I chose a practice where there are both. Midwives typically do delivery unless a csection is needed. With my first, I had a midwife at the hospital until I needed a csection and then my OB did that. This time, I have a scheduled csection, but I still typically just see midwives for check ups.

They don’t allow midwives in the hospital here anymore. But if they did I would have one. I had one for two of my pregnancies years ago and they are just so much more attentive and doctors just show up for a sec, deliver the baby and disappear.

I have a midwife. The care isn’t much different for a healthy pregnancy. If I end up needing a MD for a c-section then my midwife will take on the role of a doula and still be with us. I prefer the approach of a midwife. Most have been nurses and tend to be more hands on with care than a dr. My midwife (gave birth at hospital with first and will with this one) ran my bath, got me ginger ale, bath salts and a bath pillow. She was very supportive for both myself and husband.

In my area, when you are not high risk, you are monitored by midwife anyway.
And as it is mandatory to have few doctors visits. I would say there is no difference for me... But I am low risk. Maybe an ob is better if there are more problems or something more to do.

I have heard that a certified nurse midwife is a great way to get the best of both worlds!! This is my first baby & im with an OBGYN and I can see how the more holistic ways midwives like to use as well as the training of a medical professional is a great in between
