When to clip nails?

When do you clips your babies nails? They told me at the hospital not to do it but now my baby is 4 weeks and I think she needs it.

My babe is 7 weeks now and we always just file her nails. Mainly because I'm terrified ill accidentally clip her skin because her fingers are so tiny😩

When I was in the hospital they highly recommended tearing his nails rather than clipping them or filing them. They said clipping them you risk hurting him and infection from the bacteria on the clippers and filing them can cause burns on their fingertips if you’re not careful or do it too often. So you just tear them off. I was worried about giving him a hangnail but you have a surprising amount of control. I haven’t had an issue yet and my baby boy is 5 weeks today.

I started cutting my sons nails at 2 days old because he would scratch his face..I did the same for my first son too. I cut them while he is away so that he gets used to it. I have never cut my soon to be 4 year old and he does not fight me or give me a hard time about cutting his nails.

I clip my girl's whenever they are long, and don't when she's sleeping. Early on I didn't use the clippers, I used just a nail file and would lightly file them down
