Perineal massage?

Has anyone tried a perineal massage in the weeks before labor and if you did, did you end up tearing less while giving birth?

Didn’t make a difference for me but I also had a vacuum delivery and baby came out with his hand by his face, which certainly didn’t help.

I think this is something that's more effective if done throughout entire pregnancy not just the last few weeks.

I tried it, I ended up having an episiotomy due to baby’s heart rate and needing forceps. But when pushing prior to that I had no tears. I’ll be doing it this time around too, if I can with the scar. I feel like it helped
