22 month old addicted to tv

My 22 month old wants to watch Sesame Street all day.

I am currently a stay at home mom, but before that my son went to daycare full time. He also has a really bad speech delay. He started speech therapy, and his speech therapist asked what shows he watched. He didn’t watch at the time, because he went to daycare full time and there’s no tv there, and once I started staying home with him, I was under the assumption that the tv would make his speech delay worse, so we never put it on for him. The speech therapist said a little bit of tv is good for him, something like Sesame Street is good and very educational. So I started putting it on for him, he watches one episode after breakfast and sometimes another one while I make dinner. The problem is, after the episode ends, he starts whining and crying and giving me the remote to put it back on. He’ll cry for 10 mins, then he will get distracted by his toys, then after 10 minutes cry for more tv. If we are home, it goes on all day.

He’s happy outside, but we can’t spend the entire day outside because my 5’month old daughter gets hot and cranky. I regret ever letting him watch it at all!

Is this just a phase? Will he get sick of tv soon? Maybe he’s just really into it because it’s new to him?

Should I let him watch more?? I feel like adding another episode will never be enough.

Should I cut him off completely? No tv at all?
