Should people be patient toward ignorance?
A friend of mine is part of a mom group and in this group one of the mothers posted something racist saying that she thinks it isn’t too much to ask that her child go to daycare and celebrate Christmas and Easter and eat Sheppard’s pie (a traditional dish where I’m from) and that all this halal food is taking away from the same upbringing she had.
So naturally she got called out hard because people were offended, however so many mothers also called out the people who were outraged for not taking the time to educate this woman and guide her in the right direction.
I personally feel that it is not up to people of colour to educate the privileged for free and that a grown adult should be able to find her way out of her prejudiced ideologies if she wanted to. I personally would really struggle to meet racist ideas with an open mind and compassion, yet so many were bashing the people who were outraged for not doing that.
So it made me wonder what you all think?
