Tampon stuck inside

I was having sex with my boyfriend and he stopped bc he said he felt something in therr and it smelled bad. i cried bc i thought i was gross but i found a tampon stick way up in my vagina. my period ended 4 days ago. do u think i should go to the doctor? i mean i got it all out but the smell is still there. will the smell go away
