Transverse Baby- ECV procedure?

Found out today that my son went from being head down to being transverse. I’m 36 +1. OB is recommending the procedure to turn him manually. Anyone else doing this/have had this done? I’m leaning against trying it at all... just wondering your thoughts/ feelings regarding it. Thank you in advance!

With my second babe, I found out she was at breech at 35 weeks. She wouldn’t budge despite doing all sorts of things (SpinningBabies, chiropractors, etc). At 37 weeks, I decided to opt for the ECV. I only did it because my OB and midwife were confident that it would be in my favor due to certain circumstances (excellent fluid amount, second baby following a normal vaginal delivery, and optimal placenta location). It was very uncomfortable, but my husband was a great support person. We played some of my favorite music and I just focused on my breathing. It took about 5 minutes and my stubborn little lady moved. It does have its risks and it’s only successful about half the time. I would definitely do it again, but only if the circumstances were optimal. Definitely do what you think works best for you and your family. As long as baby and you have a healthy delivery, it doesn’t matter how baby gets here.

I found out my baby is breech at my 36 week appointment, I’m going in on Wednesday (I’ll be 37 weeks) to try the ecv. I’m so scared!! I have heard it can be pretty painful.

I’ve only heard on podcasts that it’s very painful but can be successful.  Have you listened to The Birth Hour podcast?  Check it out & look for episodes about ECV so you can hear other women talk about it.  Maybe that will help you decide?  Good luck 💜

Discussed possible ECV with my midwife as baby was transverse at an earlier apt at 34 weeks (babys since wriggled into position). Things she said to note were a just over 50% success rate, there are a few risk factors involved in an ECV procedure hence fetal monitoring and ultrasound to guide, and it can be quite uncomfortable. However on the flip side the risks of a transverse baby this late on include a prolapsed cord and highly likelihood of a c section as baby may not turn before spontaneous labour. It has its pros and cons so whichever you feel is best for you and baby. I'd suggest looking on ACOG if you're in the US or NHS if UK for detailed info.
