Birth control - the pill

Do you have to take the pill at the same time everyday for it to work , if you missed a day & take 2 the next will it still work ? Does the pill even work ? , I also got this so my period will still be normal where as to depo & the implant had fucked it up bad ! , but help only if you actually know !
