Did he want me to say he was hot? Did I mess up?

I like a guy I dated 3 years ago, I dumped him for an old flame who was being extremely manipulative. (I made a big mistake.)

I just, don't think he's interested in me, at all, and I wanted to talk to him, I was mostly just going to be friendly at this point- but, he texted me first & I started texting songs & stuff to cheer him up-

But I ended up realizing I still miss him & have feelings for him & have a huge crush on him.

And he started chatting with me more and sent me pics, including shirtless pics,

And I said he looked "like himself which is pretty great"

Instead of saying he is extremely sexy and looks absolutely gorgeous?

Did he want me to say he was hot? Is "pretty great" ok?
