NJ Newborn Visit
So I live in NJ and there is a 2 week travel advisory right now that you quarantine if you come from another state. I’m due Sept 6th and my in laws live in The Villages, Florida (huge retirement community where there are a ton of cases right now) they told my husband on the phone they other day that as soon as I went into labor they would start quarantining for 2 weeks then drive here to stay with us for a week.
Number one I’m not comfortable with my in-laws living in my house when I’m still trying to navigate being a first time mom of a newborn/breastfeeding/recovering. Don’t want to have to worry about entertaining and my house is small, since nobody can go out we will be together 24/7 while my husband works long days.. just to clarify my husband doesn’t work around people he works alone on a golf course maintaining the greens, comes home strips in the garage and showers immediately.
Number two they’re coming from one of the states that it’s mandatory to self quarantine once you’re here in NJ.
I was wondering if anyone’s been through the same thing, or has any ideas on solutions for their future visit? They are also bothered by the fact I said I may not be allowing anyone to hold the baby. I want to tell them no to visiting just two weeks after I give birth and to wait all together, the baby will be so little and won’t remember who she meets anyways plus if anything happened to her I’d be devastated. We have been so careful thus far and I don’t want to mess it up. Of course my husband is sad too that his parents may not be able to meet the baby right away so sometimes that sways the way he responds to them.
Side note: They are offended that my mom (who lives 15 min up the road) will be living with me for a week when I get home from the hospital due to my husband working 15 hour days otherwise I will be alone. She has been quarantining for the last two weeks and will continue to do so till she comes to stay with me, and also getting a rapid covid test when I go into labor. I just feel it’s a different situation and I’m not trying to make anyone feel left out.
