Midwife info?

I hate my obgyn and really want a midwife but I have a few questions.

1. Do you have to have a home birth with a midwife or can you go to a birthing center?

2. How do you find a midwife?

3. Do midwifes do ultrasounds?

So far my I've been digging the midwife experience.

1. You don't have the have a home birth. I want one but we live in a condo so to be polite to our neighbours and our kitty, we're delivering at the hospital.

2. I looked to online through our province health care site to see which midwives were in our area (since I am not driving at the moment, I didn't want a midwife that was too far by bus or walking.)

3. It depends where you live I think. My midwife does not do ultrasounds or bloodwork, she can order to have them done at a lab or clinic.

Most midwives deliver in hospitals. They can also deliver at home or in birth centers. You do want a certified nurse practitioner, not a direct entry midwife, or however it is where you live - you want the one with all the nursing skills and the baby delivery skills. My midwife didn't actually do my ultrasound but she scheduled it.

I have a midwife out of a birth center, we will do 1 ultrasound at 20 weeks at a hospital.

I have a midwife. She works out of a hospital! I will give birth in the hospital, but without pain medication. There is also a birthing center in my area, it is run by midwives. 
My midwife does ultrasounds at most appointments. She sent me to the doctor for my anatomy scan, but otherwise I see her at all my appointments.
