August 26th baby instead of Sept 6th!

Sa

Here’s my birth story:

I had my 38 week appointment on Monday. When I arrived at the office I reported some decreased fetal movement. After spending 30-40 mins hooked up to a non stress test, they sent me to the hospital for a Bpp ultrasound. (They could see him kicking me after drinking orange juice, but it wasn’t showing up on the monitor the way they liked).

He got a 6/8 on the bpp so they admitted me for monitoring. After being hooked up to the fetal heart rate monitor and the contraction monitor, I was actually having contractions every 5-8 mins that I just wasn’t noticing. After my team of doctors discussed everything, they decided to admit me with an induction just because they were comfortable with the fact that the tests weren’t “perfect and I was already there”. They gave me 3 doses of Misoprostal (which took me from 5:00pm Monday evening to around six Am Tuesday ) and to ripen my cervix then started me on pitocin.

Around 1pm Tuesday I was dilated to only 2cm when my water broke on it’s own. Then the contractions started to get a lot more intense. I elected to get an epidural before I would chicken out. Once the epidural was effective they inserted a ballon foley to get my cervix to 3 cm.

Around 7:30 pm Tuesday I was dilated to a 4 and 60% effaced. And by 2:00 am Wednesday morning I was dilated to a 6 and 80% effaced. Then things picked up, and by 5:30 am Wednesday I was at a nine/10 cm and 90% effaced and contractions were getting intense even with the epidural. Thats where things stalled I stayed at a 10 and 90% until about 10:30 where I finally went to 10 cm and 100 % effaced.

Unfortunately the doctors could tell that he was stuck and not coming down as far as they would like. They also said anatomically they could feel that my pelvic bone were flat and were concerned that I wouldn’t be able to get the baby out.

After pushing for an hour my doctor told me I could keep trying or go for the C-Section. Since the pushing was excruciating (they weaned my epidural off so I could push with contractions) and my doctor was sure that after an hour of good pushes that he hadn’t budged that he was stuck. I opted for the C-Section.

And it went really well!

After being in labor from Monday to Wednesday I wish my C-Section was planned from the start.

But it was all worth it! Kyle James was born at 11:07 on August 26th, weighing in at 8lbs 1oz, and 20 and 1/4 in length!
