Eye infection in newborn?

My almost 3 week old’s right eye has been very gunky for the last 2 days. When she wakes up from sleep it’s completely covered in crust and she doesn’t seem to be able to open it all the way. Could this be an eye infection or something else? Google is not helpful and I wanted to get other parents opinions before I message the doctor and look like an overly concerned parent when it could just be normal. Thank you!

Most likely a clogged tear duct, really common. Wash the eye lids, preferably with sterile lid wipes, if not a luke warm wash cloth. Do this 4-6+ times a day. And rinse the eye with sterile saline solution (do not use contact lense solution!) Breast milk is also great. 
If it doesn't get better within a days see your doctor.

Get a clean bath cloth and wet it with warm water. Use that to clean it off but tell your dr so they can give you an ointment for the baby's eye the same thing happened to my son. Just keep it clean and put the ointment on as directed once you get it. Save it to cause it last so long lol. Comes in handy for when it happens again. Could be allergies or too much wind in the face.

I would get a clean wash cloth and dampen it with warm water and hold it over her eye and see if that helps. Don’t put it over or touch it to the other eye though!!! If it is an infection it can spread to the other eye

Ditto on the other comment! I forgot about the breast milk! I had the flu around that time and stopped producing so I wasn't able to.
