What does OHIP cover?

Question

Just wondering if OHIP would cover giving birth in hospital? Were you able to have prenatal doctor appointments and birth in hospital all covered with just OHIP? Or do you need or recommend having private insurance coverage?

Answer

The only thing it doesn’t cover is meds if you need them and are over 24 and if you’d like a private or semi private room after birth. Granted you can totally be placed in a private room at no cost but if you say you want one they will charge you. Also you can have a midwife or ob in your pregnancy and they are both fully covered by OHIP
