Impolite to tell visitors to take shoes off?

Is it impolite to ask visitors or even anyone coming into your home to take off their shoes before coming in? My husband tells me that it’s impolite when I do that... I’m sorry but I have OCD and I can’t stand the thoughts of people bringing dirty shoes into our home, especially during this current climate

In a lot of places it’s extremely rude and not normal to wear shoes indoors. Much more rude than asking people to remove their dirty shoes in YOUR home.
We live in Canada and when my partners family from the USA used to come and visit us we always had to remind them to remove their shoes inside.
Maybe you could also get a cute door mat or shoe rack that says something like “please remove shoes” or shoes go here” to make it a little more obvious for guests?

Absolutely not rude! I’d find it more rude that they’re wearing shoes in someone else’s house to begin with.
No outside shoes allowed in my house either... that’s where we eat and play and sleep. Yuck.

Not rude at all it’s your damn house. I take off my shoes unless your house looks dirty as all get out then I’m keeping them on.

I dont think it is impolite at all. My cousin got her first apartment and when I went visiting she told me to leave my sandals at the door and offered me a pair of her socks to walk in the house so I wouldn't be barefoot. But since I was already warned she didnt like shoes in the house, i brought my house flops with me in my purse and she was fine with that. 
So if your visitors are not wearing socks under their shoes, offer them socks or a pair of house flip flops so they won't be barefoot.

No it’s not!! I mentioned it to people before and when they disregarded it I put a sign on my front door saying take off shoes. They paid attention to that. 
Honestly tho, I don’t care if people find it impolite. It’s my house and it’s up to me what I allow in my house. If someone doesn’t want to comply, they can stay outside and not come over 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not rude at all- and after a while people who visit more than once usually remember and don’t need to be told twice. A sign, obvious place to place shoes, and even a bench if possible, helps with the awkwardness as well.

This used to be a rule in my dad's house. 
Every now and then you'll come across someone who insecure about their feet either the look or smell. Thats the only time it was ever a problem.
