would you continue to date an atheist?

Question

My boyfriend is admittedly an atheist. Does not believe in anything. He doesn’t wanna get married or anything because of the “religious aspect”
I’m not hugely religious, but I have my beliefs and I have expressed to him that I want to get stronger in my faith and start going to church. He is very against it. 
I have a daughter and want more kids and would like to raise them with some sort of belief/ faith background.. for this reason I want to ask if YOU were religious or wanting to expand your faith, but your partner was the exact opposite..
Would it be hard for you to continue that relationship?

I’ll speak from the opposite side. As an atheist I personally would not have children with someone who wanted to raise children in the church. I believe it’s indoctrination and extremely unethical. My partner (who I hope to eventually have children with) does believe in god, but agrees with me about forcing children into religion.

I’m an atheist, my husband is pretty far from that. I don’t bash him for believing and he doesn’t try to shove religion down my throat. We compromise on things. Our wedding was pretty religious, which I allowed because it meant a lot to him and it didn’t hurt me to do it. Our daughter was dedicated because he wanted her to be, and again, it didn’t hurt me or her to do so. We do not go to church but if he chose to do so, I wouldn’t mind. If he wanted me to attend to support him, I would (probably not all of the time but I’d still go). Relationships are based on compromise. You’re not going to agree on everything but if your partner is not willing to give at all on something so important to you, then it’s not worth it.

Relationships like this CAN work, but it takes a lot of mutual understanding. It doesn’t sound like he’s willing to give and compromise, and that’s a red flag for many reasons.
Personally, I would not stay in this relationship.

That would be irreconcilable difference for me. If he was willing to mind his business and keep his opinions to himself, that would be one thing. I couldn't be with someone who was opposed to me exploring my beliefs and following my spiritual path. 
My husband is Norse Pagan and I'm Christian. We work because we have the same values (even though the beliefs around them differ) and we respect each other's right to choice. Religious differences can work if there's mutual respect. Someone opposing your calling isn't respect.

I think he’s making excuses up. Atheist and marriage are not synonymous. Marriage can be a legal binding government document, that has nothing to do with religion.
You have to decide what you want and what’s a dealbreaker

The atheist aspect wouldn't necessarily be a deal breaker for me, but the not wanting marriage or to raise children Christian would be. Hub doesn't have a label for himself now but was atheist when we met. But he wanted to get married and was okay with me taking our children to church so it wasn't an issue for me. He has always been respectful of my faith ( and I'm respectful of his views)

I mean I’m Democrat and my so is republican. I know religion is a little different but we have strong beliefs on certain things but we are 2 years strong with a baby girl 🤷🏼‍♀️

My SO is atheist and I believe, pray every day but I do not go to church. We respect each other's beliefs, religion isn't something we discuss other than to agree we wouldn't push our beliefs onto our children. We both believe in letting our children make the choice to believe/ not believe on their own without our influence.

Okay so I do know some couples were one is an atheist or they have different religions. So it can work but it would be a lot of communication, respect and mutual understanding. I am a very religious young Christian women. I personally would never be with someone that didn’t sure my faith. I believe in the morals and values of the church and want to pass that on to my kids. My mother told me that one of her biggest responsibilities is to raise he kids in the ways of the lord. I will be doing the same.

I’m VERY religious and my husband was too. After 13 years in marriage and 3 kids, he became a atheist. I was heartbroken, but both decided to stay together because we really love each other. It’s being about 1 1/2 year now and it’s being REALLY, REALLY HARD. 
He told me that he was sorry that he changed and about the pain in caused me, and that I had all the right to raise the kids in the church, since that was our deal since before we got married. But now he hates if I read the Bible or any other scripture for the kids. Don’t like when we pray and if we go to church. It’s being a real issue in our marriage, and life is really hard. If you are serious about your faith and is a import part of you, I would STRONGLY SUGGEST to not start a relationship with someone with different values or no faith at all. Marriage is already hard work enough without religion issues :/
