Can you be with someone who has chlamydia and not get it?

Is it possible to be with someone who got Chlamydia before being with you (and they were unaware they had it) and it took months for you to ever get it?

I was reading that chlamydia can lie dormant for YEARS never showing symptoms so a person could not know they have it but is it possible for that person to be with someone and not give it to them for months on end?

*update so even if it wasn’t protected sex you don’t think it would be possible to not get it for upto six months if the other person had it?

*update basically my partner and I have been together for about 6 months and I’m wondering if he could’ve had chlamydia before we got together and I just never got it until now because he promises he didn’t cheat and swears he doesn’t know how I could’ve tested positive because he’s been totally faithful and I just don’t know if I can believe him because obviously the doctor says he cheated (I’ve been 100% faithful) I just want to know if it’s at all possible that he did not cheat...
