Horseback riding at 18 weeks? 🐎

👋🏻 Hello!
Good morning, I have a question for all my equestrian mamas out there! I’m a first time mom at almost 18 weeks. Our family is going on vacation and we’ll be riding horses for about two hrs. I was just wondering if any of you did it and how your experience was? I’m not new at riding, I just haven’t in the last year. I used to trail ride and go to an occasional barrel race. I was just curious about all of your experiences. Thank you!😊

You are not supposed to go riding while pregnant. Do not do it.

You can do anything during pregnancy that you did before pregnancy, but you don't want to start doing something new that is strenuous. If it's been a year, I don't know that I would risk it. I've trained and ridden horses for 14 years and I rode until I was about 20 weeks and stopped because I had a hemorrhage (not caused by riding, just didn't want to make it worse). My sister has also ridden for several years and she kept riding up until she was 34 weeks and stopped because a freak accident happened while riding and her and her baby were fine but she didn't want to risk anything worse happening. With the significant break in time since your last ride I don't think I would risk a 2 hour ride, especially if it's at a stable because you don't know those horses or how trustworthy they are ect. For me, I rode my horse I'd had for 10 years and I felt safe on her because I knew all her quirks. I wouldn't get on a horse I wasn't used to being pregnant. And 2 hours is alot for your pregnant body to handle with such a long break since the last time you rode. Personally I wouldnt.

It’s fine if u know what ur doing. The only risk is falling off.
