Plus siZe affect your pregnancy in any way?

Hello, Iv been plus size all my life. Im fat but healthy, no known health issues. This is my 1st pregnancy, via

<a href="https://glowing.com/glow-fertility-program">IVF</a>. I was wondering if your pregnancy is any different from normal because of your size? People scare you with all kinds of things, like you will get high BP, diabetes, etc. i want to hear it from people who are actually here and pregnant. Thanks.

I have also been plus size my entire life, I get you girl 😉 But I was also very active growing up while living on a farm. I'm in way less shape now but still generally healthy.  In the last 2 years I started taking the lowest dose of high blood pressure meds bc my bp was slightly elevated and my dad has had 6 heart attacks and open heart surgery.  To get pregnant, I did an IUI so I am considered high risk due to the IUI, the BP, and (no one has said it to my face but I'm not delusional) my weight, I'm sure.  I was 250lbs when I became pregnant.  I've gained about 21 now, I believe, and I'm 36 weeks tomorrow.  My baby had to have an echocardiogram at 24 weeks due to my IUI, they said.  Her heart checked out perfectly fine.  I was put on baby aspirin for the BP but idk...doesn't bother me 🤷🏼‍♀️ I now have weekly ultrasounds for baby bc I'm high risk and she has done wonderful! I go to my regular OB apts plus every 4 weeks I see the high risk doctor for growth ultrasounds and now I have weekly ultrasounds besides that and baby is fabulous.  So honestly, all these extra ultrasounds are just a bonus to see my baby girl 😊 I'm grateful that she has looked perfectly healthy in there and that every single thing they look at, has come back just fine.  I've known 3 women who were all due within a month of me, 3 seemingly healthy women. 3 women not considered high risk. And each of those women have already had their babies due to some unforseen issue.  Luckily, all of their babies are okay! But they are preemies and that comes with some of its own issue.  They had to spend lots of time in the NICU.  I cant imagine the stress and worry those families went thru giving birth to 1lb, 2lb, 3lb babies!  And then theres me...considered "high risk" with the most normal of normal pregnancies.  You just never know!!  I'm grateful for my journey ❤ but I remember being terrified when I was referred to a high risk doctor.  And it's been fine 😊 Don't stress it!! Just try to have a happy healthy pregnancy. Drink lots of water, eat well (when you arent shoveling in craving candy like me 😂) get good sleep when you can, and enjoy it!  PS: I was also nervous I wouldn't have that "cute pregnant belly" because I'm 5'4" & 250lbs but, personally, I feel like I'm rocking it just as well as those skinny girls 😉😎  Good luck to you on your journey!!

I began my pregnancy at 280 lbs, ended at 305 lbs. Had absolutely no complications, the midwife even said I had an exceptionally boring pregnancy lol the only thing I had to do was Nonstress tests toward the end of pregnancy purely based on my BMI. The midwife even said there was no point for me, but it was procedure so they had to do it. Went into labor naturally at 39+3, 9 hours of labor (needed Pitocin to speed labor up a little), 18 minutes pushing. My baby boy came out perfectly healthy 🥳
Bottom line: a starting BMI DOES increase your risk for things like pre eclampsia, gestational diabetes, etc; but it only increases the risk by like 5%. Continue to eat well, take a walk everyday if you can, and take a prenatal vitamins. Chances are, you'll be just fine 🤗

This is my second pregnancy, plus size for both. I’ve had no issues; GD, BP etc! It’s not guaranteed that because you’re plus size that you will have health issues with your pregnancies!

I have had 3 perfectly healthy pregnancy with 3 healthy babies. The biggest concern that was had with all three deliveries was that each baby was over due and each had meconium. (When baby poops in the womb.) In my experience unless your high risk a pregnancy is a pregnancy and size doesn’t matter much.

I've been plus size all my life and I don't think its affected my pregnancy too much. I was 230 before I got pregnant now I'm 210 due to my severe morning sickness and change of diet. In my first trimester I was barely hungry. I could only eat a few bites of food and be full so I lost a lot of weight quickly. My son is healthy though and measuring correctly. I don't have high blood pressure but I have more issues with low blood pressure. I'll feel dizzy and sick from standing for too long or getting into a hot shower for too long because my pressure would just tank. I recently passed my glucose screening with a 89 so I didn't develop gestational diabetes. I thought I'd never get a bump or see him kick but I started to show at 22 weeks and he really started kicking out around then too. Now I'm 29 weeks! Try not to stress 💖

With my third pregnancy I was my heaviest weighing in at 235lbs. I had no health problems whatsoever. I did have SPD and the most horrible pain in my left hip (I have no idea what from), I also had knee pain from a past injury. These things can happen to someone who isn't plus size as well so I don't think the SPD or back pain was relevant to my size. However, when I gave birth and lost 40lbs, my knee stopped hurting nearly as much. I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant with baby #4 and again, no health problems and I'm at 205lbs with less pain than last time.

I had a plus size pregnancy and I’m currently 7 weeks with my second (still plus size). There was no difference apart from obviously not showing as quickly as some other people. I was told that my baby was big all the way through but he was born at 41+2 weeks weighing 8.9lbs. To be honest I was made to feel like it was a big risk at my first midwife appointment as I was told I needed to see a consultant for my weight (UK) and that I needed to take baby aspirin and be tested for gestational diabetes (which I didn’t have). This mentally put pressure on me as I punished myself for not loosing weight before getting pregnant. I’m hoping that I’m just as lucky with this pregnancy but it still worries me!

I was 282 pounds when I got pregnant. I only gained 18 pounds but the end of my pregnancy. I was fine. No problems. I have a b belly too and ultrasound sounds worked great for me. I think it depends the person. A skinny pregnant chick can get high BP or diabetes while being pregnant too. Don't stress yourself out.

You’ll probably be high risk because of an Ivf pregnancy to begin with. Ultrasounds aren’t going to be as pretty as you expect because it’s hard to get good images when there’s extra padding. I’ve only gotten one good profile scan of my son this whole pregnancy. 3D ultrasounds haven’t looked good either. It was sort of disappointing. If you do show you may not get a full round belly, but what they call a B belly instead. It’s where the top of your stomach may become harder and the bottom stays soft. There are risks of gestational diabetes and gestational hypertension but both can be controlled by healthy eating or medication. I have personally felt movement since about 16 weeks, and kicks about 22 weeks. I can see my son move in there. They monitor your weight closer, usually overweight women aren’t supposed to put on more than 15 lbs. Plus size maternity clothing kind of sucks. I’ve got one pair of shorts I like, the rest of the time I’m in leggings.
