Is pumping before birth safe?

I’ve bought a silicone breast pump; manual one. My boobs have been sore and tingly and the idea is to express colostrum to try and reduce this but when I looked into it, the internet in all its wisdom, says not to pump before the birth... only hand express. I’ve tried hand expression and I hate it.

I’m sure a few of you have posted about pumping already? What were you advised ? And is it worth storing any colostrum I do express? Thus may be a stupid question but could I add any expressed colostrum to his formula feeds? 🤔
