Stretch and sweep?? Do you actually see the membranes on the doctors glove?? Does it actually hurt?? Needing some answers..

I might be given a stretch and sweep next week and I’m quite nervous but eager for it to work! I’m wondering how I will know if it’s working at the hospital? Do you actually see the membranes on the doctors glove?? I’ve heard it’s just stripping your mucus plug, so do you see bits of plug? Does it always hurt??

It really just depends and only works if your body is already ready for labor. It usually hurts more if you aren’t very dilated or soft. I’ve had it done 4 times and 2 times it didn’t hurt at all but I was also 6 cm dilated and nearly 100 percent effaced. It was done so quickly I didn’t see the gloves but it’s basically running their finger along the sac to separate it and sometimes it’ll cause your body to naturally go into labor

It wasn’t that painful the first and second time I had it done. The third time was painful but I kinda expected it to be uncomfortable... labor hurts way worse in my opinion so I can put up with a little discomfort haha didn’t see anything on the docs glove.. they don’t show you. And probably wouldn’t be anything to see anyways. I had some cramping and spotting after the first time (I was dilated to 2cm.) nothing after second one. Third time I was at 3cm and my water broke during the sweep.

It hurt me HORRIBLY, but it’s also because I was only dilated to a 1. We only did it because my husband was set to be sent to a mandatory month long training the day of my due date (military family).

It’s pretty uncomfortable for most people. 
No doctor is going to intentionally show you their glove... they will quickly take it off and throw it in the trash before they even say it’s over haha

No they separate the membranes from the uterus wall. None of it comes out. Except maybe your mucous plug. And yes it hurt me but some others don't get hurt.
