Can they do a blood test for herpes?

Yes or No? My doctor said no that it's just a swab

Yes, you can have Herpes checked thru blood! It can test for HSV1 and 2! My Obgyn tested me thu blood! Some people never have a breakout so how else would we know if we had it!!!

Yes they can otherwise the only way herpes is diagnosed is during an active outbreak by swabbing the blisters . 
The blood test isn't routinely done though.
