Sleep all day, awake all night.

Brittany

My newborn is 8 days old today. She stays awake all day, wants to be up all night. Can’t get her to go to sleep until around 3-4 am. I’ve tried stimulation (lights, noise, etc) during the day time to get her to possibly realize its day time.

I’ve read many articles on what to do. Some say to just ride it out because they are getting used to being outside the womb and it takes a little time.

Some say to not wake her up during the day because it’ll cause her to be “overtired” and make it worse at night.

Some say to wake her up during the day and it’ll help.

What the hell do I do? Which piece of advice do I go by?

It says online that babies tend to sleep 14-17 hours in a day. So, I’m not worried about her sleeping so much cause she looks fine. But I wish she would sleep at night. It’s really causing me to be overwhelmed.

Is this something that I just have to ride it out? I mean, she’s only 8 days old (will be 9 days tomorrow) and I feel like maybe she’s just trying to figure it out on her own. But I could be wrong.

I wish I knew a definite and real solution to this staying up all night problem.
