Is this normal? Crying/gas pains

Hey ladies, I’m sorry if this has been posted recently. I haven’t been able to check for a while.

This is my second child, and I thought the first one was a bit gassy... but this little guy seems to have gas pain pretty frequently. Mostly, I’m concerned because at night he wakes up screaming in pain. Sometimes it’s just a scream or two, then he falls asleep. Other times, I have to pick him up and comfort him and eventually he either farts a bunch and/or poops. He often screams when he poops.

We have been in contact with the pediatrician, and recently switched to soy formula. I can tell he’s less gassy already, but still seems so uncomfortable and wakes himself up every 30 minutes to 2 hours at most (usually every 5-10 minutes).

Before I contact the pediatrician again, I just wanted to hear from you ladies. How much gas is normal? Is a baby waking itself up in pain just part of being a baby? Really looking forward to getting some perspective, thank you!!
