6 week ultrasound, what to expect?

I was chosen for a free sonogram for training purposes for nurses which is why I’m getting a sonogram so early. 
I’m wondering, what should I expect from the ultrasound itself? Should I be able to see the baby? 
How does the process go with it being transvaginal? Is it set up like a Pap smear? Are they studying my vagina or just putting the tool in and looking at the screen? 🤣

Answer

Transvaginal scan doesn’t hurt but you might get a “shock” if you’re not mentally ready for it. It’s a probe that they insert up your vagina, not deep in. At 6 weeks you might just see the gestational sac. Some saw their heartbeat, but it’s really hard to say when you conceived! Don’t worry too much if they are unable to locate anything at 6 weeks since it’s way too early.

At my 6week appointment, they barely heard a heartbeat but it’s very common to not hear a heartbeat that early but with it being transvaginal and my first pregnancy, I was scared about the probe but the lady put a lot of lube on it and it went right in but she had a sheet over my waste down and she knew exactly where to put it. She didn’t look at vagina or anything. But all she did was look at screen and explain what was there which all we saw was a little bean in a yolk sac
