What causes false positives?

Ive had them the last 2 cycles now where I get a faint positive and then negatives. I had a MC a couple months ago. Hcg went back to 0 quickly though. I’m on 200mg progesterone from ovulation to period. Can that be causing false positives? Or what else?

Were you having your HCG monitored with blood tests? If so those aren’t false positives, you were pregnant and had very early miscarriages.
If your just taking home pee tests: it still could have been a very early miscarriage, or an evap or indent line if you read the test past the time frame, took it apart, or held it up to a light. Most “false positives” are either actually very early miscarriages or due to user error.
