When to call the midwife?

I'm only a few weeks along (5 or 6). I have an appointment with a crunchy CNM who works for a hospital but has had her children at home. I'm thinking prenatal care with her and delivery at home with my traditional midwife from last time. Is it too early? I didn't ask her last time until like five or six months. What do you think?

Mine saw me at 8 weeks. I had a consultation at like 5 weeks though since I didn't know the midwife and wasn't 100% sure I wanted to go that route. I'd go ahead and call so she can tell you when she wants to see you.

I just had my consultation with my midwife at 6.5 weeks. She said the first prenatal appointment will be at 12 weeks.

I am seeing my midwife for the first time at 5 weeks. She says that the earlier we begin the better, and that the more conscious and calm you are from the beginning the better. We are going for our first appointment next Thursday and I will be 5.5 weeks. I wanted to get started as soon as possible, especially with understanding my changing body and my mental and spiritual states and how they will influence the next 8 months. I was really happy to hear that my midwife agrees. I say if you have a midwife picked out, call and see what she has to say. Let her know when you would like to start seeing her and go from there. Past experience - my midwives didn't want to see me until I was 10 weeks at the earliest.  I'm in canada though so I'm not sure where you are :/
