I just started annovera! My experience with it
I recently started annovera, the new birth control ring. I got it through the pill club, which I was new to. I thought it’d be nice to start a conversation about it because I know so many people have had questions about it. I did a LOT of research before I began, including reading the studies and scholarly articles that went into the research of this new birth control.
I’m 21 and I started the ring last week. I was on the pill before, Sprintec, and I found that I had mood swings and occasional headaches as symptoms. I went about a year without birth control because I wasn’t having sex and had no reason to take them at the time. Now, I have a new partner. I figured I would have a long wait to the GYN because of Covid, so I went through the pill club. It took about 5-6 days for the whole process (account creation to receiving medication, which had to be shipped overnight). I paid $0 with insurance.
Annovera is a birth control ring that releasing segesterone acetate and ethinyl estradiol into the tissue of your vagina! It has a less hormones than many other birth controls. It lasts for a year (13 cycles). You leave it in for 21 days and remove for 7 days to have a period (skipping periods is not FDA approved). You can take it out for 2hrs without dosage being affected (you can take it out or leave it in for sex).
I put the ring in this past Thursday. The day of, I didn’t have any symptoms. The next morning, I woke up nauseous and stayed that way for the whole day. I didn’t have to throw up, just nauseous. Now, I have no symptoms at all. You don’t feel the ring during your day to day activities. My partner felt it during sex but he said it wasn’t a big deal (it hasn’t affected my sex drive).
So far, I’m really happy with it! It’s great to not have to keep getting prescriptions and easy for people like me who forget to take pills 🥴 ask me any questions! 🤍
