Anyone’s hubbies work 2nd shift & how do you make it work with a family ?

My fiancé is a chef . We have a 8 year old daughter and baby on the way. All these years he’s been lucky enough to have a first shift job. I also work first shift and will continue to. He recently has been forced to find a new job for stability. He’s been given a job offer with great pay and it’s very stable  with incentive & room for growth, but it’s 2-10 ..5 days per week. And he’ll get 2 days off in a row every week, but they change every week. There was one other morning shift job offer but the pay is less, the demand is higher &and the stability isn’t there.  Any words of advice from mamas living the 2nd shift life ?

My husband and I have chosen to work opposite shifts due to childcare. I don’t really trust putting our son in daycare so this is what works best for us. At the beginning it was really hard to get used to because we went from seeing each other every day and had the same days off to never having days off together unless one of us takes pto but I honestly feel it has made our relationship stronger. When we do see each other and take time off together it makes it that much more special. We plan our days out of going out or just staying in and lounging but we don’t take it for granted.

When my husband worked 2nd shift we had to learn to make it work because we needed the income.. 
we’d have more meaningful mornings before he left. And we always prioritized bed time. To have 2 quality hours with your man and going to bed together every night is actually more than some married couples get.. just try and stay positive love. If it’s what your family needs right now then really try to make the best of it. I know it’s hard but it is what it is.. make room for quality time!!!!!

My husband is also a chef. He makes his own schedule but the majority of his hours are between 10am-10pm 5 days a week. Once a month he will take a random day off. It's hard but he absolutely loves it and knowing that makes me happy. At home he jumps right into helping with housework and being my daughters superman lol. I don't know how he does it or how he isn't burnt out. I swear attitude is everything and I got myself a good one.

My husband worked 3rd shift for the first 8 years of our relationship. When we had kids, it worked out pretty well for childcare because we only needed a very PT nanny for 2 days and he took care of our girls the rest of the week (he was working Sat, Sun, Mon nights). It was also helpful for him to primarily bring our girls to their well baby visit and our oldest had PT/OT/speech therapy weekly that he brought her to. It was hard not having any family time and basically each of us being a solo parent most of the week. We made it work. We were so thankful when he finished school and got a job that was M-F. We always thought of his work shift as temporary and it wouldn’t be forever.
