Down’s Syndrome test results

I received my NIPT test results and the doctor said my baby boy has Down’s Syndrome. I cried and cried. We love our little guy, and we know we can provide a loving nurturing home for him. My husband refuses to accept the test results because his sister was also told this during both her pregnancies. My aunt was also told this for all three of her boys. (She did an amniocentesis and it said Down’s as well, but the boys were fine). My question is, how common is it for this to be wrong?

Well I know that doctors said my brother would have down syndrome and he did not end up being born with it after all. I'd say prepare your heart for that outcome but know that there is always a small chance they could be wrong. No matter what you will both love that baby. Lots of love to you Mama.

My best friend tested positive and she doesn’t have it. One of my clients baby girl tested positive and they almost aborted her! And she didn’t have it either. They can usually tell by a special ultrasound that shows fluid in neck (i think)

There's a huge margin of error. It's too much of a coincidence that so many family members have experienced this and had children without DS. I'd be skeptical as well.

NIPT is just telling the odds of the baby having a genetic condition, it does not mean they for sure do. I believe you’d have to have an amniocentesis or a cvs test to absolutely be sure one way or another. If they also coupled the NIPT with an ultrasound they may have a better idea but nothing is for sure. Without the more invasive testing. My mom was told my brother had a super high chance for downs and he did not have it. She went through the amnio and everything they had her so convinced.
