Can I change the lock on my door??
Please read.
I rent an apartment and recently new owners have taken over. That really isn't super relevant I guess.
But in my area there has been a lot of activity (i have heard of multiple break ins in the neighborhood including some attacks and just robberies)
I am a single woman (I'm 25) and live totally alone. I mean there are people above me. But still I want to stay safe.
I do things like change my timers on my lights and TV frequently especially when I'm not home. I keep every single light on when I go to put out the trash on the curb.
I have two doors that lead into my apartment. A back door off the kitchen (not too worried about that one because there are creaky steps going down that make enough noise and the back door has a screen door that locks from the inside along with a regular door that has both a deadlock and a push button on the knob which prevents it from turning)
Now the front door to my apartment is what concerns me more. There is only one lock. See the pictures for an idea of the type of lock.
I want more security. Deadbolt. Possibly an electronic deadbolt system. If I ask my landlord, do you think thats a reasonable ask?? I would pay for it no problem that isn't an issue. And I would make them a key and their own code.
