Did you get the Genetic Screening Blood test at 9 Weeks?

If you did, was it accurate in testing for gender and abnormalities?
Was it worth it? 
Did you have any fears beforehand?

Answer

It doesn’t make sense to me to skip a genetic test. I understand the fear, but the fact that medicine has advanced enough for us to know the genetic abnormalities our babies might have and do everything we can to prepare for those is amazing. 
I did not test for sex of the baby.

It’s not 100% accurate so we skipped out on it. Plus extra cost

I didn’t do the one for gender but I did do the one for abnormalities. For my husband and I we knew it wouldn’t make a difference to us (if something was wrong we wouldn’t do anything to change the pregnancy). But for us it just seemed smart to be informed so I could do whatever I could and we could be prepared. Plus insurance for us covered a good amount so it wasn’t too expensive.

I did the test for abnormalities but not gender. I wasn’t scared before the test. I was more scared after actually. I would say it’s worth though because it’s just nice to know what to expect when your baby is born. I couldn’t imagine not doing the test just to be prepared for whatever abnormality it may show. I would want to understand the abnormality and how caring for my child would be different.

In my country, they doo nt scan for free. And if they find something there, they offer nipt and others. But if nt is normal, then all extra you have to pay for. So I went for nt and it said all is well.

We did the genetic testing at around 18 weeks and it came back with elevated AFP, which could indicate a neural tube defect such as Spina Bifida as well as abdominal wall defects or even placental issues. Fortunately at our 20 week scan, which we had with a Maternal Fetal Medicine specialist to check for any abnormalities, baby was completely fine and healthy. They are now the ones who do my ultrasounds every month, but so far baby has been fine. An elevated AFP can also indicate that at some point there was a tear in the placenta that has since healed, which they believe was what happened in my case, so they put me on low dose aspirin for extra blood flow. 😊
