7 cm ovarian cyst! 😥

L • Mommy to two boys and a little girl 💕

I’ve had a horribly eventful past 2 months. Over a month ago I found out I was pregnant which unfortunately ended up negative two weeks later. 3 weeks after negative tests I still didn’t bleed but was experiencing some mild pains on my right lower abdomen. I get frequent cysts so I thought it was a small cyst that would go away on its own as it usually does.

Another 2 weeks later the pain got severe. I started developing daily fevers for a week, extreme nausea, extreme bloating, and fatigue. I went to the ER bc I was nervous for ectopic pregnancy. They did an ultrasound and what they said scared the shit out of me. They said they found 5 cm cyst on my ovary and it looked abnormal with blood flow (both not good signs). They told me to follow up with gynecology immediately.

2 days later I followed up and explained my symptoms. He said a larger cyst with those symptoms are concerning more so for ovarian torsion. This could potentially result in the loss of my ovary. In order to avoid this since I’m so young and trying for another baby, he didn’t take any chances and booked me into emergency surgery the same day.

So yesterday went from a normal follow up gynecology appointment to surgery. I had to have some quickly pick up my son and step son and was nervous as heck. They got me in relatively quick. The surgeon told me they were checking for ovarian torsion and if possible he would remove the cyst. Luckily my ovary was not twisted and he was able to remove the cyst (which he said did not look as concerning as originally thought to be). He told me I was super lucky to have been seen that day as the cyst was actually 7 cm not 5 and the size of a small apple. I was so fortunate that my ovary wasn’t twisted. He sent the cyst to pathology to be safe so I will find out more then.

Right now I’m in so much pain and can barely move around and this procedure was only laparoscopic. I’m happy I had such a wonderful doctor who took me seriously as women’s health is typically a joke at the world famous hospital i go through. I usually get treated like a crazy person even with physical evidence of my complaints. This guy was so kind and helpful.

As for the pregnancy, it’s still unknown if it was a super early chemical pregnancy or false positives from the huge and growing cyst. I guess I won’t really know.
