Announcement about adoption?

My pregnancy was very unexpected and came at a time in my life where I am not ready for a child. I am putting my little on up for adoption. That being said, I am only 10wks 4days but am worried about when to tell my family because of the holiday. They will know somethings up when I don't drink. I'm just worried about their reactions since I'm not keeping the baby.

Have you chosen adoptive parents? I think what you are doing is brave, mature, and selfless. I think that whoever would look down on you for doing shouldn't shake you. I don't want to sound pushy or inappropriate but, If you haven't started the process, one of my coworkers (captain at a fire department) and his wife have been trying desperately to adopt for over a year. They have an awesome 6 year old son and they are overall, amazing people.

I just want to say that's awesome! I'm adopted and my adopted parents were the best thing to ever happen to me ! I have no clue who my mother is and probably never will, but I admire and love her for the decision she made!

I commend you for making such a big decision. I would say get a plan all set and your answers to every possible question ready so that your family's questions don't overwhelm you.  You should be very proud of your decision!

In the end it's your choice and they may not be happy with it but if you are not ready to care for a baby yourself you are doing the best possible thing for your little one. I am adopted and my birthmother did the best thing for me. I am going to be able to spend half my Christmas Day with her and half with my family. I would not be the person I am today without the sacrifice she made to give me a better life. I wish you tons of luck in your process and urge you to at least look in to an open or semi-open adoption because that child may one day want to know where they come from. My sister (adopted from another family) struggled in her teen years not knowing who her dad was and she will never know. Sorry didn't mean to sound pushy just an opinion I have had for years.

It really should be your decision unless you want them involved in it. If you think you will not like their opinions I would just say your not feeling well and you don't want to drink.  I have never been in your situation and I have a 4 year old boy, second boy on the way, 32 years old, been with their daddy for 7 years and I commend anyone for choosing adoption when they feel they are not ready to parent.  I have a very close friend and a sister who cannot have children and without brave people like you, they would have an adoption list to apply on.  No matter what, do not let them make you feel ashamed of yourself.

Get everyone together after thanksgiving and just explain how you're unprepared and afraid of their reactions and explain everything to them.

If you're not ready to share the information with your family, you can just say you're taking medication that doesn't allow you to drink at the moment.
