Successful VBAC induction with pitocin

BK2-17

I thought I would share as I was so nervous and loved to hear of successful VBACs when I was pregnant. My daughter was csection due to breech and we then became pregnant with our son. They are 2 years and 2 months apart. Throughout pregnancy I stayed very active walking, bouncing on the ball, doing hip circles on the ball, chiropractor throughout to keep in line, in 3rd trimester I started red raspberry leaf tea 1x day increasing to 2-3 cups a day and 6-8 dates a day beginning around 36 weeks to help ripen my cervix. His due date came and went and so we scheduled an induction with our doctor for 40+5. I went in to get the foley balloon but I wasn’t effaced or dilated enough so we started with pitocin. They started low at 1 increasing slowly around 8p. Around 1030/11p I started having contractions that were uncomfortable and pitocin continued to be increased until it reached 8 and my contractions were about 2-3m apart and getting very strong around 1230a. I labored without meds for a bit. Contractions continued to be close and got very painful. I labored on the toilet, the birth ball, tried hands and knees on the bed and around 230 my water broke. I was surprised and actually started crying I think because I got scared this was actually going to happen lol. They checked me and I was fully effaced but only 4cm and I couldn’t take the cervix exam and pushed their hand out I just could not manage all the pain. Around this time contractions became VERY painful. I tried the nitrous gas and I hated it. Between the fear and exhaustion of laboring after no sleep I begged for the epidural. Around 330 I got the epidural and it only worked on 1 side but just feeling 1/2 the pain was such relief I didn’t care. They pulled the catheter back and had me lay on the side it wasn’t working on to try to get the medication to work. At this point I was able to doze off in between contractions and lowly breath and moan through them laying in bed. Around 430 I started with a lot of pressure in my butt. By 450 I called the nurse to let her know. She checked and I was ready to push. I started pushing shortly after 5 and I was greatful I could feel some because the epidural didn’t fully work so I was able to feel much of pushing and push effectively. It was decreased but I felt the ring of fire and everything. After only 40m of pushing out he came!! It was about 6/7h of labor, very fast! But it went as beautifully as it could and baby and I were safe and monitored the whole time ❤️❤️❤️ you can do it ladies!!! I am so proud we did!!
