Might be a a dumb question (hair)

Hi ladies! I recently dyed my hair dark brown (almost black) and I loved it! But then I realized I didn’t get permanent dye so it’s faded a lot. I decided to go ahead and get more dye to get to the dark color I want. I was wanting to do it tomorrow but I realized my hair is so greasy, and I planned on washing my hair in the morning. Is it better to have freshly washed hair, or dirty hair to dye it? I know when you want to style it it’s easier to do so when your hair is dirty. But not sure if that goes with dying it. Any hair stylists out there that can give me a answer? 😂 I really want this to work out this time lol
