Do they send you home if not 40w?

If I go in at 38 weeks and like 3cm dilated would they admit me or send me home since I'm not 40 weeks yet?

They'll admit you when you're in active labor (not just dilated) regardless of how far along you are.

Being dilated is not a reason to keep you. You need to be having  contractions as well

In my experience they won't admit you unless you're water broke. The day I was admitted I actually had an appointment at the hospital. They knew I had been having consistent contractions but not close enough together all night and was 3 cm dilated. They were going to send me home until I got up to get dressed and the nurse noticed my water broke

They'll send you home at my hospital if you're not 5cm 40 weeks or not

They usually send you home if you aren’t dilated enough and contractions aren’t consistent. 
They may let you walk the floor for an hour or 30 mins to see if there’s any change. But you may be going home.
